La canzone dell'anno è L'Essenziale, vincitrice ieri del 63° Festival della Canzone Italiana, cantata da Marco Mengoni. Al secondo posto si piazzano i geniali Elio E Le Storie Tese con La Canzone Mononota e terzi i Modà con Se Si Potesse Non Morire. Diciamo che la canzone che ha vinto è un giusto compromesso tra l'arte degli Elii e la più smaccata canzone-pop adolescenziale classica del gruppo dei Modà, cui comunque sfugge un altro Sanremo dopo che Vecchioni li battè a sorpresa nel 2011.
Canzone ben interpretata da Mengoni che ha mostrato, oltre alla solita padronanza della scena, anche un più maturo livello d'interpretazione. Il podio rappresenta perfettamente la scena musicale italiana oggi, con un interprete già primo sulle radio e sulle classifiche digitali, con Elio ed il suo gruppo che portano la musica per palati più fini e con i Modà che, piaccia o meno, con il loro pop da incarto dei baci perugina riempiono comunque concerti e vendono dischi a milioni.
Cosa ha colpito gli italiani della canzone che ha vinto? Se è vero che attraverso le canzoni di più di sessanta anni di Festival si potrebbe raccontare la storia d'Italia, ecco che, con la crisi presente che obbliga a rivedere certezze e modi di vita e di rapporti, questi versi forse non sono passati inosservati:
